Richard Cartwright is a Member of Council at the University of Southampton, providing strategic leadership and challenge to the Executive of one of the world’s top 100 ranked universities.
Richard is a Principal Teaching Fellow at the university, where he teaches financial accounting, audit, corporate governance and ethics to undergraduates. He is also the Deputy Head of the Department of Accounting.
Richard is a Chartered Accountant and works closely with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in his roles as Council Member, Chairman of the Assessment Committee, and Learning and Professional Development Board Member.
Richard was previously appointed to the Department of Education’s T Levels advisory panel, where he provided advice and guidance in the development of its accounting course. Prior to this, his work included Senior Lecturer in Accountancy at Southampton Solent Business School and leading teams of auditors at KPMG.
He is also a founder member and former Chairman of the Team Solent Sharks Wheelchair Rugby Club based at Southampton Solent University.
In 2018, Richard was named in the Shaw Trust Power 100, an annual listing of the 100 most influential disabled people in the UK.
