Kate Dearden MP presents keys at car handover in Halifax

Tuesday, 12 November 2024

Kate Dearden, Labour (Co-op) MP for Halifax, has presented keys for a Motability Scheme  vehicle to Allison, a local constituent.

The car handover took place at Bristol Street Motors Nissan dealership on Friday 1 November.

Total freedom

Allison’s Motability Scheme car allows her to get out and about and importantly attend all her hospital appointments, which can sometimes be quite a distance from her.

Both Allison and her husband, Rodney, are really happy to have a Motability Scheme car as it enables them to go wherever they want, whenever they want, with no worries. It is total freedom for them. Rodney says “The service we have received from the dealership and everyone at the Motability Scheme has been first class. They have never let us down.”

“I commend the work of the Motability Foundation and Motability Operations”

Kate Dearden, MP for Halifax said: “I am delighted to present Allison with the keys to her Motability Scheme car. In Halifax, there are over 1,500 people who use the Motability Scheme to lease a car, powered wheelchair, or scooter to maintain their independence.

“It has been wonderful to meet Allison and her husband, Rodney and to see the difference her vehicle has made to her life first hand.

“I commend the work of the Motability Foundation and Motability Operations in their commitment to fund, support, research and innovate to help all disabled people make the journeys they choose."

Making a difference

Nigel Fletcher, CEO of the Motability Foundation, added: “We are delighted to be here in Halifax at Bristol Street Motors Nissan. There are 16 million disabled people in the UK, making up more than one fifth of the population.

“However, disabled people often struggle to make journeys due to a lack of access to transport and accessible transport options and today, together with Motability Operations we celebrate the independence the Motability Scheme provides for Allison and her family. In the first nine months of 2024 we have already awarded over £100,000 of grants to individuals in Halifax, to help them access the Motability Scheme.

“I want to thank Allison for being here today to highlight the difference a Motability Scheme vehicle can make to disabled people’s lives. We are also grateful to Kate Dearden MP for her support of the Motability Scheme and the Motability Foundation.”
