Motability, the national disability charity, has recruited five new apprentices who will start their careers in the organisation’s Harlow office. Four in Motability’s grants enquiry team and one in the HR department.
Demonstrating the charity’s continued support for the automotive industry and the local community, Motability is currently offering tailored customer service and business administration qualifications throughout the year, providing young people with little to no experience new practical skills to take their first step in to the world of work.
Laura Norton, Motability’s Talent Acquisition Partner, said: “This is just the start of Motability’s strategy to offer apprenticeships across the charity and we have a great deal to offer young people in the local community. We have started with five fantastic apprentices who have joined us this month.
“We are eager to invest in young people and provide plenty of opportunities for professional development, laying the foundations for a successful career. We are working closely with Harlow College to offer these apprenticeships which will cover a range of qualifications and we look forward to growing this partnership further as Motability continues to support the local community.”
The five apprentices will be studying at Harlow College whilst gaining hands on experience in their various teams over a period of 12-18 months at Motability.
Gary Salisbury, Harlow College’s Employer Relationship Manager for apprenticeships, added: “Working with the Motability recruitment team has been satisfying and the fact that they have taken on five apprentices shows a terrific commitment to both local Harlow and district surrounding areas and also to their staff development and training. This represents good employment practice.
“Motability for a long time have been interested in the work that the college does and going forward, we very much hope to have the support of the organisation for sending our business focused students there for work experience and for Industry Placements in support of the college’s growing portfolio of T Levels (which were designed with employers to give young people the skills that industries need).”
The apprentices are joining a very successful and highly-acclaimed apprenticeship programme that Harlow College run.
Erin McGee, who is starting an apprenticeship programme in the HR department at Motability, said: “Working at Motability feels different, it’s lovely. They really care about my education and I am enjoying learning on the job about the different aspects of the role.”
McGee, who is studying Business Administration at Harlow College found the process of applying for the apprenticeship to joining the team at Motability “good and easy”, and would definitely recommend other students to jump on board.
Another new starter at the charity, Harrison Torbey, found the training programme through Shaw Trust, an organisation that helps disabled people and those with challenging life circumstances or other barriers that impact on access to work.
Torbey was ready to take on a new challenge and move in to the world of work. So when “this apprenticeship came up, I just thought wow! I need to go for that,” he said, adding that Shaw Trust helped him to apply for this role.
He continued: “I am excited to be here and start learning because a job is more fun when you are learning. If I get through the apprenticeship I would like to stay on with the company.”
