Sarah Jones, Labour MP for Croydon, has presented keys for a Motability Scheme vehicle to Felicity, a local constituent.
The car handover took place at Stellantis and You Vauxhall dealership on Friday 26 January.
“I now have my independence back”
Felicity works for a local council and she is also a qualified counsellor. Felicity has a Vauxhall Mokka fitted with push pull hand controls.
She said: “The car has been a god send. I would not have been able to take on my role at work if it wasn’t for the car, walking to the train station would have been too painful.
“I now have my independence back and do not have to rely on anybody to get out and about.”
“I commend the Motability Foundation’s commitment to innovation”
Sarah Jones MP for Croydon Central, and Shadow Minister for Industry and Decarbonisation, said: “I am delighted to present Felicity with the keys to her new Motability Scheme car.
“Here in Croydon, there are 994 people who use the Motability Scheme to lease a car, powered wheelchair, or scooter to maintain their independence.
“It has been wonderful to meet Felicity and see the difference her vehicle has made to her life first hand.
“I also commend the Motability Foundation’s commitment to innovation so that disabled people can access transport now and in the future.
“This includes their sponsorship of the PAS 1899 standard, which shows industry how to make public chargepoints fully accessible to all.”
Making a difference
Barry Le Grys, CEO of the Motability Foundation, said: “We are pleased to be here in Croydon at Stellantis and You, and I would like to thank Sarah Jones for supporting the Motability Scheme and to Felicity for coming today to highlight the difference having a Motability Scheme vehicle can make.”
