"Driving has given me a new lease of life"

Chris, 29, from Leicester, has a Motability Scheme car. He loves music and volunteers at a local hospital radio station. He recently passed his driving test with the help of a Driving Lessons Grant from the Motability Foundation.

Chris has epilepsy, Asperger's Syndrome, dyspraxia and dyslexia. Chris drives an automatic, which has a reversing camera and parking sensors.

Learning to drive

Chris had some bad experiences using public transport prompting him to want to learn how to drive.

“I was really pleased with my driving instructor. He was easy to connect to and we built up a good friendship over the time I was learning to drive" says Chris.

“I was told by doctors that I wouldn’t be able to drive – I’ve proven them wrong!"

Gaining independence

“Driving an automatic is great for my disabilities, and gives me confidence to be able to drive easier and safer."

Passing his driving test has enabled Chris to attend college, medical appointments, see friends and family and undertake voluntary work with Epilepsy Action.

"All the voluntary work I do would not be possible without my car. It has given me a new lease of life. I have so much more freedom now.

"Since receiving a Driving Lessons Grant with Motability and passing my test, life has been a lot better. Thank you the Motability Foundation!”
